Palestinian journalists face extensive Israeli violations
In its monthly review of press freedoms in Palestinian territories, the syndicate said Israeli forces “continued in December 2025 a policy of systematic targeting of Palestinian journalism through a wide wave of serious violations.” The report noted that these incidents reflect “a high level of repression and restrictions” on journalistic activity.
According to the report, one journalist was killed while on duty, two were seriously injured due to shelling or direct attacks, and two relatives of journalists were killed, all in the Gaza Strip.
In the occupied West Bank, the syndicate documented 48 cases of detention or denial of media coverage, 15 assaults involving tear gas and stun grenades while journalists were working, two attempted vehicle rammings targeting journalists, nine incidents of weapons being brandished or journalists threatened, and six direct verbal threats.
The report highlighted that limitations on coverage and the suppression of field reporting indicate “a systematic Israeli policy aimed at preventing the transmission of images and facts,” especially in Gaza and the West Bank cities of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jenin, and Ramallah.
Other incidents recorded include two cases of physical abuse, destruction of one piece of journalistic equipment, the demolition of two journalists’ homes, two arrests, two summonses for security interrogation, and two cases of organized incitement by Israeli media falsely linking journalists to armed groups. The syndicate also reported an attack by illegal Israeli settlers on a Palestinian journalist under army protection, highlighting the coordination between occupation forces and settlers in targeting journalists.
In early December 2025, Gaza’s government media office reported that 257 Palestinian journalists had been killed during Israel’s two-year campaign in Gaza, which began on October 8, 2023, and ended with a ceasefire in October 2025. Since the ceasefire, the Israeli army has reportedly killed 420 Palestinians and injured 1,184 others, according to the Health Ministry.
The two-year conflict resulted in nearly 71,400 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, over 171,200 injuries, and widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip.
