MSF Warns Gaza Water Restrictions Are Deepening Humanitarian Crisis

(MENAFN) A humanitarian organization has accused Israel of deliberately limiting access to water in Gaza, describing the situation as a form of collective punishment and calling for urgent action to restore essential supplies. According to reports, the group urged authorities to allow the immediate resumption of water services and ensure that aid can enter without obstruction.

In its latest findings, Doctors Without Borders stated that ongoing limitations on water availability reflect what it called a “systematic and cumulative pattern.”

“Israeli authorities know that without water life ends, yet they have deliberately and systematically obliterated water infrastructure in Gaza, whilst consistently blocking water-related supplies from entering,” Claire San Filippo, MSF emergency manager, said.

The report indicated that close to 90% of Gaza’s water and sanitation systems—including desalination facilities, pipelines, and sewage networks—have been either damaged or destroyed.

“Palestinians have been injured and killed simply trying to access water,” San Filippo said, warning the deprivation is fueling disease amid overcrowding and a collapsed health system.

The organization further noted that between May and November 2025, around 20% of its water distribution efforts were unable to continue due to shortages and restricted access.

It also called on Israel to restore water supply levels to meet basic needs and urged international partners to apply pressure to ensure that humanitarian aid, including materials necessary to repair water infrastructure, is allowed into the territory.
